Volume 3, Issue 4
Dear Huron Academy Families,
I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday break. We are back at it for three more weeks before our next break, and what a fun three weeks it will be! From holiday concerts to basketball games to exciting classroom projects, there’s plenty going on to keep our students and families engaged this month.
Our staff has been working hard behind the scenes on a number of projects and initiatives that we will be excited to share with you in the new year. As you all know, our house system has been up and running, and we are planning some exciting events and activities for 2025 and beyond; not only does our school store open this week, but there will be an online store open in January, with all sorts of swag available. Our Positivity Project is expanding, with students learning new life skills, from resilience to empathy. We’ve also started a school wellness program, led by students with the assistance of Mr. Sumpter, which aims to teach students how to make healthy choices physically and mentally. Building on that, we are also participating in a fresh fruits and vegetable program (FFVP) which gives students the opportunity to try new, unique, and healthy foods during snack time (see previous attachment/email on that).
Additionally, as you likely know by now, our building project is full steam ahead. Financing has been secured to begin construction at our current Utica campus, so PreK – 2nd grade will be in a new building for the 25-26 school year. With all staff under one roof, collaboration on exciting activities and initiatives will be easier to accomplish, and with all students under one roof, community- and culture-building will be stronger than ever (and will make the commute easier for many of our parents too!). I’m excited to see what positive impactful changes we can make as a school community moving forward.
In short, during this season of gift giving, we still have a lot to be thankful for as a school. I encourage you all to be a part of the festivities this month and beyond. Yes, this is a very busy time for us families, and sometimes being busy can mean being stressful. However, studies actually show that the more involved and active we are, the more likely we are to be happy and satisfied with life. So join the craziness, support your school family, and have lots of family fun in the process!
Sincerely,
Joshua Sobczak,
Superintendent
